Vecellio Tiziano, The Descent of the Holy Ghost, Santa Maria della Salute, Venice, c.1545

Both Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and Tomás Luis de Victoria composed parody Masses based on motets, Dum complerentur (When [the day of Pentecost] had fully come), that each had earlier composed.  These works offer audible manifestation of what is written in the Acts of the Apostlesabout the occurence in the upper room.

Dum complerentur dies Pentecostes
erant omnes pariter dicentes: Alleluia.
Et subito factus est sonus de caelo. Alleluia.

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come
they were all with one accord in one place saying: Alleluia.
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven. Alleluia.

Tamquam spiritus vehementis
et replevit totam domum. Alleluia.

As of a mighty rushing wind
and it filled all the house. Alleluia.

Dum ergo essent in unum discipuli congregati
propter metum Judaeorum sonus repente de caelo
venit super eos. Alleluia.

When therefore the disciples were gathered together
for fear of the Jewish people suddenly a sound came upon
them from heaven. Alleluia.

Tamquam spiritus vehementis
et replevit totam domum. Alleluia.

As of a mighty rushing wind
and it filled all the house. Alleluia.
